Picking your subdomain
The URL part of your free *.seenly.biz address.
What it is
Your free subdomain is the URL where your site lives — for example joesplumbing.seenly.biz. We pre-fill it with your business name slugified; you can edit it on the claim page before checkout.
Rules
- Letters, numbers, and dashes only. No spaces, dots, or special characters.
- Lowercase — case is stripped automatically.
- Must be available. We check live as you type and show a red mark if it’s taken.
- A handful of words (admin, app, api, mail, www, help, static) are reserved for Seenly itself and won’t be allowed.
What makes a good subdomain
- Short — the shorter, the easier to say on the phone or print on a card.
- Recognisable — your business name, not a slogan.
- No hyphens if you can help it — “joesplumbing” reads better than “joes-plumbing”.
- Match how you already spell your name elsewhere (Instagram handle, Google listing) so customers don’t have to guess.
Subdomain vs business name vs custom domain
- Subdomain — the URL bar text. Editable here, but changing it later breaks any printed material that referenced the old URL.
- Business name — the name your customers see on the site itself. Editable any time from the Content tab in the dashboard.
- Custom domain — if you bring your own URL later (yourshop.com), it replaces the subdomain in the address bar. The subdomain still exists as a fallback.
