Bringing your own domain (BYOD)

The DNS walkthrough — works with every registrar.

Walkthrough

  1. 1Open Domain → Connect a domain you own.
  2. 2Type your domain (e.g. yourshop.com) and click Add.
  3. 3We show you two DNS records — typically an A record for the apex and a CNAME for www.
  4. 4Sign in to your registrar and open its DNS settings.
  5. 5Add the records exactly as shown. Delete any conflicting A or CNAME records on the same host.
  6. 6Come back to the Seenly dashboard and click Verify. We poll your DNS every few seconds.
  7. 7Once we see your records, we issue an SSL certificate and your site goes live on the new URL within a minute or two.

What the records mean

  • A record (apex / @) — points the bare domain (yourshop.com) at our IP address.
  • CNAME record (www) — points www.yourshop.com at our hostname so both forms work.
  • Your registrar may call “apex” by other names — @, root, blank, your-domain.com itself. They all mean the same thing.
DNS changes propagate in 5 minutes to a few hours, depending on your registrar and TTL settings. If Verify is still failing after an hour, see the troubleshooting subtopic — the most common cause is an old A record left in place.
